ゼミ紹介
The aim of this seminar is to help students plan, research and write an undergraduate thesis about gender and popular culture. Students will learn how to turn a broad interest into a manageable question, find and evaluate academic sources, choose suitable materials, make claims supported by evidence, and improve their writing through feedback and revision. Students may study popular music, film, television, magazines, advertising, fashion, celebrity culture, fandom, games, social media, or other forms of popular culture. The seminar introduces ways to ask how gender shapes representation, work, institutions, audiences, and everyday experience. Examples will include Japan and transnational contexts, but each project must match the student's language skills and access to sources. Class meetings combine short explanations, guided exercises, discussion of accessible readings, student presentations, peer feedback, and individual supervision. No previous training in gender theory or research methods is assumed. Students are expected to work steadily outside class and to revise their plans when the evidence or timetable requires it.
卒論・卒業研究について
•Students must cite all sources and keep a complete record of quotations, images, translations, and research notes. •Projects involving interviews, observation, private information, or vulnerable participants require consultation with the instructor before data collection. •Publicly visible online content still requires careful decisions about privacy, traceability, platform context, and possible harm. •Generative AI may be used only when institutional and course rules permit it. Students remain responsible for checking sources, conducting the analysis, writing the thesis, and disclosing permitted use. •Projects may address discrimination, harassment, sexual violence, and other sensitive subjects. Discussion and quotation should be necessary for the analysis and handled with care.
受講上の注意など
Students may begin with a broad interest and do not need previous specialist training. Regular attendance, timely submission of work, and willingness to revise are essential because each stage builds on earlier work. Short readings, research guides, and model passages will be provided in class or through the course platform. Readings will be chosen to match students' topics and language abilities. Students will build an individual bibliography in consultation with the instructor; no single textbook is required.
