ゼミ紹介
In this seminar you will work towards completing your graduation thesis, from learning about the basics of academic writing and literary theory to analysing previous research, and from choosing a topic to organising your argument. You will regularly present your work in front of the instructor and peers, and learn how to give and receive constructive comments. このゼミでは、アカデミック・ライティングや文学理論の基礎知識を身につけながら、先行研究との「対話」のもとで各自の扱いたいテーマを選択し、卒業論文を完成させます。学生による定期的な発表と、それに基づく議論を大切にします。 We will use English and Japanese in this seminar. You are particularly encouraged to read your primary sources in Japanese. ゼミの使用言語は英語；日本語も可。特に一次資料を日本語で読めることが望ましい。 Classes you should take before joining this seminar (at least 3 of them): できればゼミに参加するまでに履修して欲しい科目（３科目以上）： 日本文学・文化概論１、2 Survey of Japanese Literature and Culture 1, 2 日本近現代文学１、２ Japanese Modern and Contemporary Literature 1, 2 日本文学・文化演習7、８ Seminar in Japanese Literature and Culture 7, 8
卒論・卒業研究について
You are expected to find and analyse in depth one or more pieces of Japanese literature (broadly defined) that you are interested in. Some might worry that over-analysing a literary work will kill the fun of reading-- but usually it is quite the opposite, and the interpretations you arrive at through *studying* literature in relation to its unique use of language, or its socio-historical background, etc, are usually richer/ more insightful. 卒論のテーマは自分で選びます。日本近現代文学作品（広義のもので大丈夫です）を一つ、あるいは複数を選択し、精読し分析します。例えば文学テクスト特有の形式、その社会的背景、発表メディアなどに着目すると、面白い読みができると思います。
受講上の注意など
I will not be holding an official orientation for this seminar, but feel free to contact me by email if you are interested in joining. We will then schedule a meeting (face to face or on Zoom) to discuss your intended topic, etc. (ゼミ説明会を行わないため、参加を決める前にメールで予約を取り、卒論テーマなどについて対面かZoomで相談してください）。
