Goals of the course  
Through reading and debating the literature (both Japanese and English) on contents tourism, students will learn about the current hot topic of “sacred site pilgrimage” by fans of popular culture. Through fieldwork, students will also experience for themselves “sacred site pilgrimage”.
Overview of the course  
The course is divided into seven blocks of two weeks. Each week, students will make presentations about and discuss the key research in the field. Two of the blocks are active learning (attending a symposium, visiting a “sacred site”).

Notes  
This seminar is conducted primarily in Japanese. But, reading academic literature in English and attending an international symposium are important parts of the course. A high level of English understanding is required.
