Linguistic Typology and Linguistic Theories I
Linguistic theories are tools to analyze the reality of language. They are not metaphysics; if a theory contradicts the reality, it is the theory, not the reality, that should be re-examined and sophisticated. Theories are to be examined, not to be learned as the establishment. We will reexamine the history of syntactic theories, particularly on subject-predicate constructions, aiming at obtaining fundamental understandings on 'theories' in general, or of Western trends.
