Title（English）   
M.A. thesis writing in applied linguistics
 
授業の目標   
応用言語学における修士論文作成の実際をマスターする。自分で関心のある分野に関して研究テーマを精査し、先行研究をまとめ問題点を整理、その中から研究課題を絞り込む技術を身につける。さらに研究設問を適切に設定し、それに答えるための研究方法のヴァリエーションを身につける。
 
Goals of the course   
The objective of this course is:
1) to learn how to do the review of previous studies and narrow down the focus of your study
2) to define your research area and formulate research questions in an appropriate way
3) to choose appropriate data collection methods and instruments
4) to choose how to analyze the data qualitatively and quantitatively
5) to discuss the implications of your findings in a logical, meaningful way
6) to conduct research in a constructive manner so that your study provides an empirical basis for further research
 
授業の概要   
前期は研究テーマを各自で分野の先行文献を整理しながらしぼりこむ。同時に研究方法に関する基礎的な知識を身につける。
 
Overview of the course   
The participants will do extensive review reading and narrow down their focus of research in their specific fields.
In the meantime, we will read a book on research method and statistics in order to gain the basic understanding in the field.
