Academic Presentations II
The goal of this course is for students to learn how to perform an academic presentation such as they might give at a conference. A second goal is for students to learn how to create and give a job interview presentation.
This course is taught using a combination of lectures, discussion, and activities. Students will learn how to choose a topic, do research, incorporate citations into the presentation, use proper delivery, handle the Q&A session, and present visuals.

Academic presentation, PowerPoint, delivery, research, visual aids.

The first presentation for this class is a persuasive presentation. Students will begin by learning how to choose an appropriate topic and do research. Students will also learn how to incorporate visual aids. Students will then learn how to prepare the parts of the presentation: the opener, the areas of agreement, the preview, the body with data and citations, the counterargument and refutation, the summary, and the memorable conclusion.
The second presentation of the semester is the job interview presentation. Students will incorporate elements from previous presentations but will also learn special considerations about organization, contents, and delivery.
The grade will be based on the students' two presentations with emphasis on delivery, effectiveness, voice, visual aids, and organization.
Students will be expected to prepare their presentations for homework, and throughout the semester students will present parts of their final presentations to show that they are on track.
Because the schedule for this class depends on how many students enroll (more students means more time is needed for presentations) some items may be cut from the schedule if time is short.
