本講義では比較・国際教育学領域の理論的な枠組と方法論に基づき講義を行う。比較教育学の理論については古典的な比較教育学の理論から最新の理論研究までを取り扱う。また、履修者の関心がある諸外国の教育問題を取り上げ、口頭発表やディスカッションを通して分析・検討する。※主要なトピックス①比較教育学理論、②文化比較の方法と課題、③諸外国の教育問題、④口頭発表指導、⑤論文・レポート指導(論文執筆のための文献・資料収集の方法やフィールドワークの技法についても紹介する予定)

This course aims to provide a comprehensive interdisciplinary understanding of the Japanese culture and society through comparison with other countries. Recent research and work about Japanese culture are incorporated into the course in the choice of specific topics selected for discussion. Topics examined include history, religion, literature, art, communication pattern, education and so forth.

「学生中心型」の学習形式をとる。すなわち、毎回の授業では必ず履修者間におけるディスカッションを採り入れ、自主的に考えることによって本分野の知識を深めていく。

This course is divided into three parts. The introductory part of the course covers the main methodological and epistemological difficulties of comparative research in culture and society. The second part provides a comprehensive portrayal of contemporary Japan through analysis of key aspects of Japanese society and culture. Equal attention is given to other cultures to which participants may belong. The third part examines major conflicts which come from cross-cultural differences between Japan and other countries and then examines strategies to resolve such conflicts.

(1) Organization
Class time consist of lectures, student presentations and discussions. Within a 90-minute period each week, there will be one 20-30minute lecture, one 35-40minute presentation, and one 30-35minute discussion (unless otherwise indicated in the syllabus).
(2) Student Presentations
Each students is required to present at least one on any of the topics listed in the syllabus. If a student wishes conduct research on aspects of Japanese culture and society that are not listed on the syllabus, s/he should contact the lecturer as soon as posible. Each student must meet with the lecturer at least one week before her/his presentation to discuss(a) the topic,(b) questions and isues about related topics, and (c) presentational strategies(i.e.using OHP, VCR,etc)
(3) Discussion
Each student is expected to lead the discussions that follow their presentations. Students planning presentations should also try to think of concrete ways to foster discussions and debates on related topics.
(4) Final Project/Final Examination
In addition to the final examination, students are required to submit a report of approximately 2000 words(typed, double-spaced) on any issue chosen from the list of discussion topics of the syllabus. If a student wishes conduct research on aspects of Japanese culture and society that are not listed on the syllabus, s/he should contact the lecture as soon as possible. The report must be organized as an academic thesis and must include the following: (1) title ,(2)research question, (3)hypothesis, (4)chapter heading, (5)biblography, and(6) web-site Students who fail to attend more than three classes in a row, or who fail to submit course assignments without sufficient explanation, will be graded accordingly.

適切な理由がなく3回以上欠席したものは、最終成績対象から除外する。

This course is structured around lectures seminers 90 min. once a week unless stated otherwise in the syllabus. A schedule of the lecture is attached. As weekly assignments, students have to read articles distributed at the lectures. Students who fail to attend more than three classes in a row not be allowed to take examinations without a reliable evidence of extraneous circumstances
