狭隘な専門分野のみにとらわれることなく、日頃から旺盛な知的関心をもって現代社会のあらゆる事象に接している学生を対象とし、1冊ないし2冊のテクストの精読とディスカッションを中心とした授業を行ない、最終的にまとめとなるレポートを執筆してもらいます。物語理論にたいする理解を含め、その成果を自己の研究に応用し得るようにすることが到達目標となります。

The aim of this course is to help students acquire constructive understanding of narrative theory.

受講者は、これまでの研究成果についての簡単な紹介と、今後、他の受講者と論じてみたい独創的なテーマを用意し、A4、1枚程度にまとめて、第1回の授業に持参してください。
|

Students are asked to prepare brief descriptions about their research areas and possible thesis topics. Textbooks and reading materials will be chosen depending on students' interests.

表題となっているとおり、物語の一般理論構築を最終的な目的として掲げつつ、虚構テクストの読解に新たな地平を開いてゆく試みを展開します。題材としてとりあえず考えているものは、ヴラジーミル・ナボコフの長篇小説『ロリータ』ですが、英語原文のみならず、受講者が習得している言語に応じて、『ロリータ』の各国語訳を相互に比較するという実験も可能となるものと思われます。 その後、文学テクスト以外の分析対象にも眼を向けつつ、ナラトロジー関係の近年の理論的成果を具体的に応用してみることにより、それぞれの受講者が独自の洞察に達することをめざします。 各回の授業は次のようなものになります。 第1回 秋学期からの受講者の自己紹介。春学期の受講者はレポートの概要を口頭で発表し、質問に答える。 第2回 取りあげるテクストの選定。次週以降、受講者全員で読むテクストの候補を絞る。 第3回 数種類のテクストを取りあげ、各自の担当箇所を決めて、精読と討議を開始する。 第4回 テクストCの精読と討議(1):Psychoanalytic Criticism 第5回 テクストCの精読と討議(2):Feminist Criticism 第6回 テクストCの精読と討議(3):Lesbian / Gay Criticism 第7回 テクストCの精読と討議(4):Marxist Criticism 第8回 [第1回 active learning:テクストCのまとめ] 第9回 テクストDの精読と討議(1):New Historicism and Cultural Materialism 第10回 テクストDの精読と討議(2):Postcolonial Criticism 第11回 テクストDの精読と討議(3):Stylistics 第12回 テクストDの精読と討議(4):Narratology 第13回 [第2回 active learning:テクストDのまとめ] 第14回 最終的なまとめとなるレポートの内容を検討する。 第15回 全体的な討議。

Every work of classic fiction (such as Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita) can be a subject, but, at the same time, recent critical works on narrratology must be dealt with.

毎回の授業における発表内容、貢献度を50パーセント、学期末に提出するレポートを50パーセントとして最終的な成績を決定します。

Grades will be based on preparation before class (50%) and the written work (50%).
|

予定されている一回分の範囲を精読し、不明な箇所がないようにしておくことはもちろんですが、なるべく早いうちにテクストの終わりのほうまで読むようにしてください。予習段階では、極力疑問の余地がないよう入念に下調べを行なっておくこと。予習、復習をつうじノートやカードをじゅうぶん活用して、要点をまとめておくこと。このような日頃の努力は、よいレポートを書くために絶対欠かすことができません。

Habitual perusal of the assigned work is essential. Also, the importance of the note-taking must not be neglected.

自分が発表を担当していない回も、(基本的な辞書類にあたるのはもちろんのこと)じゅうぶんに準備して授業に臨み、積極的に発言を行なうこと。

|
Highly recommended are: 1. several different types of dictionaries 2. a step-by-step training in logical thinking 3. the accumulation of theoretical or practical knowledge.
