授業の目標   
近現代英語の統語法に関する研究書を読み、英語史的観点から近現代英語の統語法の変化の様態をとらえ、現代英語統語法の背景に関する知識を修得する。
 
Goals of the course   
The goal is to study the syntactic changes in Modern English from a historical point of view, and to acquire a good knowledge of the linguistic background of Present-day English.
 
授業の概要   
『ケンブリッジ英語史』（第４巻　1776-1997）の「統語法」の章のうち動詞句・節・文のセクションを中心に輪読し、議論する。

We will read the chapter on syntactic changes from _The Cambridge History of the English Language: Vol. IV 1776-1997_.

現代英語に関する知識と英語史の知識を総動員して、毎回の分を読み込んだうえで授業に臨み、積極的に議論に参加してください。

英語史の基礎知識が前提となるので、学習経験がない場合は、前もって入門的な概説書を読んでおいてください。
