授業の概要
Overview of the course:

This course focuses on improving the students' J-E interpreting skills in the “consecutive” mode, covering such skill areas as analytical listening, note-taking, strategic translation, and general delivery/presentation, paying close attention to the problems that are peculiar to “Japanese into English” interpreting work. The students will be exposed to SL talks that vary in discourse style and context (scripted/extemporaneous, speech/interview/multi-participant discussion, live/recorded, slow/moderate/fast, etc.) to learn the best interpreting strategies for each type. The course will also emphasize the acquisition of translation skills and strategies that are transferable to “Japanese into English” interpreting in the “simultaneous” mode.
