紙の辞書から電子辞書へと前世紀に大きな移行が見られ、今世紀はオンライン辞書が主流となっている。その結果、容易に検索が可能な状況になっている。とりわけ、コーパスの構築とその影響により、辞書は情報において量のみでなく質においても、記述と提示方法等を含め試行錯誤を重ね、工夫を凝らした編纂が試行されてきている。そして、特に学習辞書は母語話者向け辞書にも影響を与えるまでに先端を走っている。外語大の学生にとり最も身近で不可欠な「辞書」をテーマに、さまざまな角度から関心を持ち、視野を広げ、賢明な利用者かつ建設的な評者になることを目標として授業を進める。

Dictionaries in general have been changing in form as well in content since the latter half of the twentieth century. Today online dictionaries are considered mainstream ones. It is now possible to consult them and obtain various types of information. It is because corpora have made it possible to compile dictionaries that give not only detailed information but also improved quality description.This course is designed to provide those interested in dictionaries with an opportunity to think of dictionaries from many aspects, which are indispensable for students at TUFS. It will enable them to be smarter dictionary users and reviewers for the improvement.

辞書全般についてより深く知る。授業が限られているため、受講生は必要に応じて自学自習をする必要がある。また、専攻言語の辞書の有無、その形態、記述内容、問題点を含め、実態を詳細に検討する。建設的な批評を含め、今後の辞書使用に活用できる視点を養成する。

Students will be more acquainted with dictionaries in general as well as getting more knowledge about them. They will also be thinking about dictionaries of the language they are learning so that they will get a critical but constructive view of the existing dictionaries and have a better and wider point of view of dictionaries.

１）講義のほか、時間が許せば論文の利用も含めたい（論文を含める際は、講義担当者が資料を準備する）。
２）講義ではレクチャーと質疑応答を中心に進める予定である。なお、詳細は第1回のクラスで提示する。
３）対象言語として英語への言及が多くなるが、同時に受講生の専攻言語の現状を考察する。
４）プレゼンテーションおよびレポートは必須とする。
５）受講者数により授業形態の変更可能性もある。

This course will be basically giving lectures on dictionaries. Students are required to attend classes and study or read some articles or books after the lecture so that they will become more interested in and familiar with a number of types of dictionaries. The course will mainly include such topics as history of dictionaries, types and format of dictionaries, criticism or review of dictionaries, use and users of dictionaries, corpora and dictionary compilation. The lecture will give students the opportunity of finding the fact that there remains much to be desired in the description of dictionaries even in the twenty-first century.
