比較政治学の分析手法・道具を踏まえ、主に非西欧の途上国の文脈における政治、紛争、政治変動への接近法（=analytical approaches）を、具体的事例の分析例とともに習得し、自らが興味のある事例の分析ができるようになること。

比較政治学や比較歴史分析における最新の接近法について学んだ後、途上国の文脈における政治、紛争、社会変動の諸側面を、中東地域他からの具体的なケースを通じて検討する。講義・討論に加え中間試験を実施し、採点の上返却し理解を深めてもらう。

比較政治学的な議論を自ら使いこなせるかを評価の基準とする。最終評価の内訳は、毎回の授業へのリスポンスペーパー２０％、中間試験３０％、期末試験５０％とする。

Evaluations will be based upon whether students can themselves conduct discussions on comparative politics. Final evaluations will consist of the response papers for each lecture 20%, a midterm examination 30% and a term-end examination 50%.

当てはまる実例を思い浮かべることができなければ、理論的な議論を有意義な形で理解することができない。新聞その他を通じて、様々な争点に関する政治の日本内外における実践例を沢山見聞きしておくことが必要。
