Ecological approaches to African Area Studies 2
 
授業の目標   
アフリカの主要な生態系の一つである熱帯林地域（主として西・中部アフリカのカメルーン、コンゴ民主共和国、コンゴ共和国、ガボン）に焦点をあてながら、生態学的に地域を把握する視点を身につける。
 
Goals of the course   
This course aims to give an introduction to African Area Studies from looking at society and culture through the lens of ecology. Particular focus will be placed on central Africa (Cameroon, Gabon, DRC, and RC).
 
授業の概要   
アフリカ熱帯林には、ユニークな文化や社会をもつ人々からなる多民族社会が広がっている。例えば、ピグミー系狩猟採集民の人々の藝術実践は、古くから世界の人々の関心を受けてきた。この授業では、地域の社会・文化的な側面を生態学的にとらえる方法論の解説を行ないながら、個別地域社会の内部に見られる多様性を人類社会における普遍的な関心との関わりから捉え直していく。
 
Overview of the course   
Extensive cultural and sociological diversity can be found within the central African forests. This course will employ ecological methodologies to explore socio-cultural characteristics of a region. Ultimately we will recapture the inherent diversities that are found within regions based on more universal concerns shared among humanity, such as communication, development, and spiritual practice.

成績評価の方法・基準   
１．期末試験50%（講義内容をもとに、自分の考えで答案を書けているか。特に独創性を評価します。）
２．アクティブ・ラーニングのレポート30%（課題をきちんと理解し、各自の問題意識に沿った内容を書けているかを評価します。）
３．平常点20%（毎回授業の感想文、およびグループワークやアクティブ・ラーニングの中での討論に積極的に参加できたかを評価します。）

1. Achievement test 50%

3. Participation to class including mini-reports 20%
 
事前・事後学習【要する時間の目安】   
毎回、次の授業で扱う教科書の該当部分を指示するので読んでおくのが望ましい。疑問が出てきた場合は、積極的に授業内で質問するか、担当教員に相談に来ること。

Advised to read pre-indicated part of the textbook assigned before each class. If there are any questions or concerns, make sure to ask during class or consult with the instructor.
 
履修上の注意   
ローカルだが、人間の社会生活にとって普遍的な問題をあつかうので、アフリカ熱帯林の理解とともに、アフリカの異なる地域や他大陸との比較・連関性にも重点が置かれる。「アクティブ・ラーニング」以外の授業においても、グループワークや受講者間でのディベートなど、参加型の要素が含まれるので、これらに積極的に臨み、主体的に学習を進めることが求められる。
 
Notes   
Improving our understanding of the diversity within the African continent, as well as improving our ability to compare the region with other part of the world is central to the course. Active participation throughout the course, not just during “active learning” and “group work” sections, will be important.
