アフリカにおける開発の歴史および開発概念の歴史的変遷を理解し、さまざまな現代的課題の背景を把握できる知識を身につける。こうした知識をもとに専門的な議論を行えるスキルを身につける。

Students will acquire a knowledge of the historical changes in African development and development concepts and a background knowledge of various modern issues. Utilizing that knowledge, students will acquire the skills necessary for in-depth discussions.

アフリカが抱える様々な問題は、国際社会が乗り越えるべき共通の課題となっているが、国際関係が大きく変動する現在、「開発援助」はもはや先進国が途上国を一方的に援助するという単純な図式では描けない。本授業では、開発と援助の歴史、理論の変遷、アクターの多様化などについて考察し、「開発」の概念を受講者とともに再構築する。主体者の視点を中心に据えつつ、未来に向けた私たちとアフリカの関係を考えていく。

The problems that Africa faces are seen as the same issues international society must overcome, however, with the major changes in international relations today, “development aid” can no longer be a simple scheme of industrialized countries unilaterally assisting developing countries. In this course, we will consider the history of development and aid, changes in theories, the diversification of actors, etc., as we reconstruct the concept of “development”. Maintaining our focus the perspectives of the subjects of our studies, we will contemplate our future relations with Africa.

取り扱うテーマに関連する文献を探し、授業の前に予備知識を備えておくこと。『新書アフリカ史』(宮本・松田編、講談社)を読み、アフリカの大まかな通史を理解しておくことが望ましい。

Students should read literature on the themes to be taken up and acquire background knowledge prior to lectures. Reading “Shinsho History of Africa” (Miyamoto, Matsuda eds., Kodansha) and having a general understanding of African history is recommended.
