台湾の歴史，中華民国の歴史を十分理解したうえで，台湾に移った中華民国の統治形態，国民党と台湾社会とのかかわりを整理していく。台湾におけるオポジションの生成，民進党の結成，台湾ナショナリズムを検討する。台湾の民主化のプロセスを再検証する。

Based upon a solid knowledge of Taiwanese history and the Republic of China’s history, we will clarify the relationships between the transfer of governance from the Republic of China to Taiwan, the nationalist party and Taiwanese society. We will examine the generation of opposition in Taiwan, formation of Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party and Taiwanese nationalism. We will re-examine Taiwan’s democratization process.
