The objective of this course is give a close-reading exercise to students for enhancing their capabilities of diverse interpretation and critical interrogation of Japanese Literature from Meiji Era to present times.
|
|
|
|
This course examines the English translations of Japanese literary text such as manifestos, essays, novels, first-person fiction, poetry, women novels and colonial literature written from Meiji Era to present day literature. By brainstorming various discourses arising from the long accumulated research on the aforesaid topics, students will be able see through and understand the modern and contemporary Japanese literature, society and culture.

This course will be combination of lectures, reading, discussions, and group activities. Regular attendance and meaningful participation in both discussions and group activities are compulsory.
Grades will be calculated in the following manner.
• 60% In-class participation and activities • 20% Short Test • 20% Final Report
