Seminar on World Literature: Post-colonial theory and comparative literature
 
授業の目標   
世界文学という枠組みについて理解する上で重要なポストコロニアル理論を学び、それを応用して文学作品の解釈ができるようになることを目指す。
 
Goals of the course   
We will learn post-colonial theory, which is a basic knowledge to understand the framework of world literature. Students will be able to apply the theory to their own analysis of a literary text in the end of this course.
 
授業の概要   
世界文学といったときに、その「世界」はどこまでを含むのか。古典的には世界はヨーロッパを意味していた。しかし当然ながら世界はヨーロッパだけではない。それでもその当然の認識にたどり着くまでには長い道のりがあった。
この演習では、世界の意味が変容するきっかけとなるエドワード・サイードを中心としたポストコロニアル理論を学ぶ。毎回1、2名に課題についての発表をしてもらい、それをもとにディスカッションを行う。2回のアクティブ・ラーニングと期末レポートでは、これまでの議論を意識しながら文学作品の読解を行う。
 
Overview of the course   
When we say "World Literature", what are included in the word "World"? The classical meaning of "world" was Europe, but of course, nowadays Europe is only a part of the world. However, there was a long way to reach this recognition.
In this seminar, we will learn post-colonial theory, mainly about Edward Said, which changed the meaning of the world. We will have a short presentation every class, and will have a discussion based on the presentation. Students are also required to submit two short essays and a final paper in which they analyze a literary text using post-colonial theory.

発表は20分程度におさめること。授業後に、議論に対するレスポンス・シートを作成すること。

Presentation is about 20mins. Students also need to write a response sheet after each class.
 
履修上の注意   
発表者以外も積極的に議論に参加することが単位取得の条件です。
