授業の目標   
ヨーロッパ文学の基礎とも言える西洋古典文学の各ジャンルの主要な作品に触れながら、古典文学の発展と変遷について概観し、文学史的知識を得るとともに、古典文学の特性について理解する。
 
Goals of the course   
While looking at major works of Western classical literature which built the foundation of European literature, we overview the development and transition of classical literature, obtain knowledge of its history, and understand the characteristics.
 
授業の概要   
西洋古典文学のうち、主として古代ギリシア文学を扱い、主要なジャンルから数人の作家を取り上げ、その作品について解説することによって、ギリシア文学に関する基礎的な知識を与える。
 
Overview of the course   
We mainly cover ancient Greek literature out of Western classical literature. Listing up several authors in major categories of Greek literature, explain their works, and obtain basic knowledge of Greek literature.

秋学期の「西洋古典文学（２）」をあわせて履修することが望ましい。

It is desirable to take "Survey of Classical Literature 2 in the fall semester in line with this course.
