Seminar in English Phonetics and Phonology 1
 
授業の目標   
英語の音声を客観的に分析できるようになること。
アメリカ英語、イギリス英語の発音を聴き取り、発音記号で記述できるようになること。
 
Goals of the course   
By the end of the course, students will have gained the knowledge needed to analyse the sounds of a language (esp. English).
More specifically, they should be able to listen to and transcribe spoken General American and British English using IPA symbols.
 
授業の概要   
英語の音声を記述する訓練を行う。聞き取る英語は英米の標準的な発音のほか、方言にも挑戦する。分節音だけでなく、イントネーションも聞き取り、記述できるようにする。
 
Overview of the course   
This is a practical course in phonetics, and time will be spent listening to and transcribing the sounds of English. Intonation will also be covered.

授業のための準備、授業中に行う演習など、総合的に評価する。
 
Grading system for assessment   
Assessment will be made by taking into consideration degree of participation in class and quality of work handed in.
 
事前・事後学習【要する時間の目安】   
事前学習の必要は特にないが，前回までの授業で扱った事項についてはよく復習し，発音記号での記述を常に練習しておくこと。
 
Preview/review   
Students should spend time practising phonetic transcription.
 
履修上の注意   
原則として音声学・音韻論の講義をすでに受講しているか、並行して受講すること。 ４年次で卒論を書く予定の者は３年次でこの演習を受講していることが望ましい。
 
Notes   
Third-year students planning to write a graduation thesis on phonetics, phonology, or related field in their final year should take this course.
