世界の諸言語の多様な音声学的・音韻論的な事実を言語学的に理解する能力を習得するための基礎を学ぶ。
言語の音韻構造を分析する手法を身につけるために、音素分析に必要な概念（音素、異音、分布、規則、制限）および重要な音韻素性を理解し能動的に使えるようになる。各自の専攻語の音素体系と音韻規則や音韻制限を正確に記述できるようになる。以上が目標達成基準。

Learning outcomes
After completing this course, you should be able to:
Understand and work with the basic concepts of phonology
Develop analytic skills (i.e. describing data, formulating and examining hypotheses, evaluating alternatives)
Discuss basic phonological issues (e.g. the phonemic system, phonotactic constraints, and major allophonic rules) of Japanese and languages in which each student is majoring.

音韻論的分析の基礎となる音素分析の方法を実践的に理解するために、受講者にとって未知の言語資料の分析の実習をしながら、音韻論的な基礎概念を分かりやすく解説する。

This course will introduce students to phonology and provide them with the analytic skills and the conceptual framework to describe and explain language sound systems linguistically. Main topics include phonemic and morphophonological alternations, natural classes, and distinctive features.
