授業の目標   
導入科目として、言語の研究についての基本的知識を得ることを目標とする。研究分野としてどのようなものがあるかを知ることを第一の目標としている。
 
Goals of the course   
As an introductory course, the objective is to obtain basic knowledge on language studies. The main purpose is to learn the areas constituting language studies.
 
授業の概要   
言語の研究分野として、音声学、音韻論、言語学、言語情報処理、計算言語学の５つの分野を取り上げる。それぞれの分野の基本的な考え方を解説し、必要となる知識や技能についても説明する。
 
Overview of the course   
This course will cover five areas of language studies; phonetics, phonology, linguistics, language information processing, and computational linguistics. It introduces basic approaches, knowledge and techniques required to study these areas.

成績評価の方法・基準   
５つの分野それぞれについて、それぞれの教員の３回の授業時に説明された方法で、試験ないしレポート課題が出される。これら５分野の成績で総合評価する。
音声学（益子）20パーセント、音韻論（中川）20パーセント、言語学（箕浦）20パーセント、言語情報処理論（佐野）20パーセント、計算言語学（望月）20パーセント。ただし、５分野のうち一つでも成績がつかなかった場合はこの授業の成績は不可とし、単位は認定されない。
 
Grading system for assessment   
The lectures of this course are delivered by 5 lecturers on 5 study areas. Each lecturer will hold 3 lectures and give you a test or a report assignment on each study area. Details on such test or report is given in the class. The assessment will consist of over-all results of those 5 study areas. The breakdown is: Phonetics by Masuko (20%), Phonology by Nakagawa (20%), Linguistics by Minoura (20%), Language information processing by Sano (20%), and Computational linguistics by Mochizuki (20%). However, learners who missed one or more of 5 study areas will not obtain the credits of this course.

教員の指示に従って、受講前の予習と受講後の復習を行うこと。

履修上の注意   
注意事項１：この授業はそれぞれ３回で完結する。成績評価は５人の担当教員のすべての成績の合計で評価する。一人の教員の評価が欠けても単位は出さない。
注意事項２：５人の教員の、それぞれの初回の授業で、その３回の授業の進め方の説明があるので、よく注意して聞いておくこと。特に、成績評価の方法は教員によって異なるので、３回の授業のうちによく確認しておくこと。
注意事項３：成績評価について個別の教員に相談しに行くのは、テストまたは課題提出期限の前に行うこと。やむを得ない事情がある場合はその事情を証明できるものを持参して、できるだけ速やかに担当教員に相談に行くこと。
注意事項４：この授業は、第１学期にも同じ内容で開講される。同じ内容の授業を履修登録した場合は単位が認定されない。すなわち、この授業に限り、授業科目名が異なっていても講義題目が同じであれば授業内容が同じであるので単位を認定しない。なお、履修登録手続き時には受け付けられてしまうので注意すること。
注意事項５：担当教員の順番が予定とは異なることもある。その場合は授業時に予告するので注意しておくこと。
 
Notes   
Note 1: Each study area of this course consists of 3 lectures. The assessment consists of the overall evaluation by 5 lecturers. Learners who missed one or more lecturer’s evaluation fails to obtain any credits of this course.
Note 2: The first lecture on each study area provides the guideline for the lectures. The evaluation method differs among lecturers, so do not miss the explanation on test or report given in the class.
Note 3: When you want to consult with lecturers on the assessment, do it before the tests or the deadline of the assignment.
If you have an unavoidable reason that prevent you from taking a test or submitting an assignment, please bring in a medical certificate and so forth and consult with the lecturers.
Note 4: This course is also held in the first semester with the same contents. No credit will be given to learners who have registered to the duplicating courses even though the names of the courses are different, and a registration process completed successfully.
Note 5: Lecturers may preset classes in a different order to that of the schedule. In such case, prior notice will be given in the class.
