Academic English: Theme-based

This one semester theme-based course will focus on “Media and Cultural Interpretations On Social, Environmental and Health Topics.” The skill based foci will be on listening and note-taking, writing, discussion and presentation.
The instructor will give 10 - 15 minute weekly oral explanations (“mini-lectures”) on 9 themes throughout the semester including media, culture, environmental and health. Students will take notes and then break up into groups to discuss, write reports and then give weekly presentations on the topics.
There will be a mid term discussion test based on materials from the first five weeks; and a final group poster presentation based on the materials from the final four weeks of the course.

Students should take notes in class and may use laptop computer in class. Please listen to teacher explanations and use computer only for the purposes of the class. Bring English dictionary, notebook, writing utensils, etc.
