This course aims to build competence in the following areas:
1. Organising a variety of essay styles clearly and logically
2. Using academic vocabulary and styles of prose effectively
3. Citing and referencing sources correctly
4. Proofreading, editing, and revising multiple essay drafts

Academic Writing (Advanced) introduces the formal structures and styles of academic writing. The second half of the course focuses on two primary areas. The first is academic language: we will study the specific vocabulary, conventions, and styles of writing particular to university research. The second is the organization and writing of a research paper. Students are expected to take responsibility in choosing a theme and thoroughly researching it for the final paper.
