The goal of this course is to help you improve your discussion skills in English, with particular stress on building oral fluency and confidence in sharing and defending your opinions. You will learned useful functional language for having discussions and be expected to share your opinions on various topics with your classmates during extended discussions.

|
|
Each week you will learn about a new topic through a reading assignment completed at home. In class students will have the opportunity to critically analyze the issue and share their opinions with their classmates. Students will be required to prepare for and participate in debates held regularly in class.

Active participation* in class activities: 40% Homework: 30% Quizzes: 30%
*Note: Your “Participation score" will be based on the quality of your in-class performance, including how often you speak in class, how prepared you are for each class, etc. This grade is not based on your attendance in the class.
Missing more than four (4) classes in one semester will result in a failing grade for that semester. Three (3) lates will be equivalent to one (1) absence. More than 45 minutes late will equal one (1) absence.
