The purpose of the course is to increase the academic language skills to upper intermediate level (CEFR level B2). The specific goals include the following: (1) To develop students' key reading skills (2) To develop students' command of reading strategies (3) To develop students' academic vocabulary (4) To provide opportunities to practice summarizing texts

この授業は、アカデミックリーディングに必要な様々なリーディングのスキルの向上を目指します。アカデミックな英文の主題をとらえ、詳細を読み解く力を養います。また、スキミング、スキャニング、ノートテイキングなどのスキルを向上させ、アカデミックリーディングに必要な語彙を増強します。

This course will help students develop a wide variety of reading skills that are required to read academic texts actively. Targeted reading skills include skimming, scanning, identifying main ideas and supporting details, prediction, and keeping reading-notes. This course also aims to build academic vocabulary.

学期末の課題(40%)とチャプターごとの課題(60%)を基に、受講時の平常点を加味して評価します。 課題評価基準:授業で扱ったストラテジーを適切に用いて英文を読み、英文を正確に理解したことを示すことができているか

テキストにはあらかじめ目を通し、疑問点を授業中に解決できるように準備してください。授業内外の課題を通して語彙ノートやリーディングノートを作成しましょう。

The students are supposed to read the text before each lesson and become familiar with what the chapter is going to cover. The students will keep well-organised vocabulary notebooks with a record of new words and phrases.

授業では、リーディングだけでなく、ディスカッションやその他グループワークなどの英語コミュニケーション活動がたくさんあります。積極的な授業への参加が求められます。

In this course, the students will be involved in various language learning activities. They are supposed to actively participate in those activities.
