Interactive English Reception
The main aim of this course is to improve reading skills. Students are expected to acquire reading skills required for reading books with substantial intellectual contents. The emphasis is put on acquiring abilities to analyse the structure of texts and to generate synopses based on the analysis.
Materials used on this course are essays on contemporary British culture. Classes are given in seminar-style and all in English. Students work in pairs and, under the teacher's supervision, analyse the structure of the texts (essays), summarise them, and orally present the summaries in class. Students submit written versions of their summaries on a regular basis. The last two weeks are reserved for 'Active Learning'; towards the end of the term, students read, analyse, summarise the designated materials (see below), and compile the results of their work in the form of two separate papers, which they submit by the deadline that will be announced in class at the beginning of the term.

Students must attend the class every week having done all the preparations that the teacher designated the week before. When using dictionaries, attention must be paid to pronunciation as well as meanings. Towards the end of the term students take a revision test, for which reviewing everything they have so far learned is essential.

Every week students must attend the class having done all the preparations that the teacher has designated. Absence without justifiable reasons is not acceptable. Attending the first session is an absolute must, as everything that students need to know about this course will be explained to them during that session.
