The overall goal of this course is to develop your ability to communicate in English. If you can think in English, you can communicate in English more effectively. (If you can think in English, you can listen, read, write, and speak faster.) In order to communicate your thoughts effectively, you must be able to organize the thoughts in a clear structure. In this course, you will study how to orgazinze, analyze, and prepare a presentation.

Students will watch DVDs on World Heritage Sites and write a summary of what they have seen. After summarizing, they will do research on some related subject for their presentation.

The main goal of this course is to develop the students' listening ability, writing ability, and communication ability. The following topics will be taken up in the first semester: 1. Introduction to the course 2.Topic 1: Colosseum Rome's Arena of Death (Presentation 1 and Research Assignment) 3. Research Presentation 1 4. Topic 2: Blood and Flowers In Search of the Aztecs (Presentation 2 and Research Assignment ) 5. Research Presentation 2 6. Topic 3: Secrets of Lost Empires--The Incas:(Presentation 3 and Research Assignment ) 7.Research Presentation 3 8. Mid-term Presentation I: World Natural Heritages 9. Mid-term Presentation II: World Natural Heritage 10. Topic 4: The Mystery of the Taj Mahal (Presentation 4 and Research Assignment ) 11. Research Presentation 9 12. Topic 5: Dive to the Bermuda Triangle (Presentation 5 and Research Assignment ) 13. Research Presentation 5 14. Final Presentation: World Cultural Heritage I 15. Final Presentation: World Cultural Heritage

Evaluation will be based on class participation, and presentations. All students will be required to hand in summaries of the DVDs and written versions of their presentations. (If a student fails to attend 80% of the total number of classes in a semester, he/she will automatically fail.) Some other minor details will be explained on the first day of classes.

English is be used in class. Students are advised not to use any other language during class.
