Goals of the course   
The goals of this course are to improve students competence in using English productively. Input via graded readers and instructor guidance is directed to allowing students to improve the quality and organisation of output in both written and oral form. Within a relaxed, informal supportive classroom environment students confidence in communicating productively in English.
 
授業の概要   
 
Overview of the course   

This course aims at improving students productive skills both spoken and written. It is student centered allowing choice in content. Students choose readers from the ELC and the topic and scope of their discussion and presentation. Support is given in organising written assignments through a process approach - re-drafting and revising. Peer reviewing, researching, preparing and conducting small group discussions, and giving feedback to each other are important aspects of this course.

Each term follows the same pattern:

Weeks 1-7 Reader work, small group discussions; Writing: summaries, critiques and reviews

Weeks 8-14 Discussion Presentations, choosing a topic, preparing, conducting/ presenting; Writing: Report

Preview/review   
Active participation is essential. This course requires out of class preparation regarding reading, note taking and researching. Keeping to deadlines is important.

This class is conducted entirely in English. All content is provided by the instructor. There is no required text.
There is no test. Assessment is ongoing and made on the basis of student performance of tasks. See grading above.
