This class aims for 3rd year Turkish Studies students to develop their language skills by learning new words from different subject. The aim is for the students to better and more comfortably express themselves in spoken and written Turkish.
The course relies on subjects chosen by students themselves. Each student will make a presentation in class on a subject of his or her own choice (a book, a movie, a journal article, a subject that will lead to fruitful discussions). The presenter is responsible for providing a reading material for his or her classmates prior to class.
The presenter is expected to have looked up all words in the reading material prior to class and should be capable of explaining these to his or her classmates in Turkish during the presentation.
Each presentation is followed by class discussion.

Each class starts out with the presenter's explanation of the weekly subject followed by questions from other students on the subject of presenters choice. The presenter then acts like a moderator and asks his or her classmates questions on the chosen topic. Students are expected to take notes during class and are required to hand in four papers throughout the semester. There will be short quizzes at the beginning of each class (active learning).

Grading relies on attendance, presentations, participation in class discussions, homework and final exam. Class participation and homework are most important.

Homework is due until Wednesday noon of the following week. Presenters have to send the discussion topic at least two days prior to the presentation.
