Aspects of English
 
授業の目標   
英文を正確に読み取る力を養うとともに、英語の特徴と背景に関する理解を深め、今後の英語学習に有効な視座を与えることを目標とする。
 
Goals of the course   
1. To further develop reading skills.
2. To provide students with an effective perspective for learning English through understanding its linguistic features and background.
 
授業の概要   
英文を正確に速く読む練習を行う。また、内容理解のために、適宜、説明を補足する。
指定教科書は、「英語」という言語の特徴と背景を多角的に論じた啓蒙書であるが、本授業においては、特に通時的に論じた章を取りあげる。
論の展開に留意し、原則として、パラグラフごとにまとめながら読み進めていく。
 
Overview of the course   
We will read chapters on the history of the English language paragraph by paragraph. Students will be requested to give a linguistic and cultural explanation of the content to understand the text accurately.

教科書の予習範囲をきちんと読み、要点を整理したうえで、授業に臨んでください。
授業後には、キーワードに目配りして読み返し、流れを読むコツを身につけるようにしてください。また、予習の段階で調べ忘れた語句をきちんと調べて、細部の理解にも努めてください。
