アフリカ専攻での学生生活を始めるにあたり、「What Can I Learn “from” Africa?アフリカ【から】何を学べるか」を謙虚な姿勢で真剣に考えてほしい。将来、アフリカを支援する業務に就くにしても必要なスタンスだと思っています。
本講義で使う主な教材は、TED Talksやアフリカ（系）政治家の演説、アフリカの映画、音楽、ファッションの動画です。授業では、可能な限り英文字幕と日本語訳テキストを用意し、学生の皆さんがアフリカについてご自分の主張をするために、ネイティブの表現を最大限、取り入れる機会にしたい。そして、教材として扱うスピーカー達がなぜ、人々を感動させるトークができるのか。彼ら、彼女らの経験と見識を皆で共有することによってアフリカに対する理解を深めたい。
英語の視聴、読解、作文、会話の全てをフルに使ってアフリカ学入門をしましょう。春学期には、平常の講義参加に加え、「アフリカから何を学べるかWhat Can I Learn from Africa ?」と題したプレゼンテーションとレポート作成を履修生全員にしてもらいます。

アフリカの政治、社会、経済、文化などに関する最新の動画（TED TalksやYouTube）を視聴し、皆で意見交換を行います。日本語で記入可能なリアクションペ—パーには質問やコメントだけでなく、どういうテーマのビデオを見たいかも書いてください。なるべく学生の皆さんの見たい動画を教材にしたいと考えています。
学期中、学生の皆さんに課す課題は、What Can I Learn from Africa?を共通テーマとする英語のプレゼンテーションとレポートです。今後の大学生活で皆さんがアフリカを学ぶうえで少しでも役立つ授業にしたいと思っています。

関心あるテーマに関する動画を授業の教材として積極的に提案してほしい。
高価であるが、プレゼンテーションとレポート執筆のため、Web辞書「英辞郎」や例文の多い英英辞典をダウンロード（入手）しておくとよい。
