授業の目標   
 
Goals of the course   
This seminar aims at introducing to PCS students social scientific approaches to conflict and contentious politics. Through reading assignments, classroom discussions and written examinations, the seminar will enable students to learn how to approach research subjects and formulate their own research questions.

Overview of the course   
Each week, the participants are required to send in their answers to the assignment questions. In addition, they are expected to be fully prepared to discuss all aspects of the required readings.

成績評価の方法・基準   
 
Grading system for assessment   
Classroom participation and weekly assignments: 50%
ALH1 and Midterm examination: 25%
ALH2 and Final examination: 25%
 
事前・事後学習【要する時間の目安】   
 
Preview/review   
Weekly assignments will be given over the duration of the course. Comprehensive reviews of all the readings and assignments will be required before each examination.

Notes   
This course is not open to non-PCS students.

This is a required course for all the incoming PCS students in their first term. It will not be offered in any other point of time. Full attendance is mandatory.
