【Only for the HIPS program】Study Tour to Hiroshima
Through the study tour to Hiroshima, the students will learn examples of history in the public sphere: the city’s colonial/ industrial/ military history, the representation of the memory of the atomic bomb, the complicated positioning in the Cold War regime, and the relationship between history and memory. Through the fieldwork, the student will deepen an understanding of the use of the past in the public sphere and develop skills to manage the complicated relationship between academic historical knowledge and its practical use in society.
The students will gain basic knowledge about the city in the preliminary learning. The field study will include visiting the Hiroshima Peace Museum and a meeting with the survivors or successors. The activities will be followed by group discussions. Submission of the final report is required as a review study of the course.
