Environmental ethics of the post-Anthropocene
 
授業の目標   
複眼的に人間と自然をめぐる諸問題を捉え、錯綜する多様な道徳プロジェクトと自然をめぐるポリティクスを読み解き、ポスト人新世における環境倫理と具体的社会実践を構想できるようになることを目指す。
 
Goals of the course   
This course aims to enable students to recognize various human-nature issues and ideas from multiple perspectives to understand the complex and contested dynamism of ethics and politics of nature in the fields and envision social practices for the world otherwise.
 
授業の概要   
　わたしたちの社会は、これまで基盤としてきたゆるぎない「自然」によりかかることはもはやできない。わたしたちは、人間活動がもたらした未知の惑星システムに生きている。かつてなく不確実性を増した惑星システムのなかで、いかに資源利用と保全の確実性を生み出すか。野生や里山など概念化された「自然」はそのための柱となりうるのだろうか。持続可能な社会の実現のため、生命工学によって生み出される「自然」や「生命」と、どのような関わりをつくっていくことができるだろうか。
　また、「生き残りをかける」といったときに、わたしたちの間で、そして未来世代との間で、公正さはどのように実現されるのだろうか。公正であるとはどのようなことを意味するのだろう。また、持続可能な社会において、わたしたちはどのような、そしてどのように「よりよく生きること」を追求できるのだろうか。そもそも、わたしたちの存在の豊かさとは何を意味するのだろう。こうした問いにうまく向き合えず、答えが探せないまま、持続可能な社会という言葉がわたしたちの先を歩いているようだ。
　本講義では、こうした問いに取り組んできた二つの近接する分野、環境社会学と環境倫理学の議論を参照しながら、科学技術が生み出す新しい生命や自然と向き合うための、それらを想像し生み出すための倫理的指針や実践について探求する。喫緊の課題だからこそ、立ち止まって考えることも必要になる。講義ではそれぞれが思考をめぐらせ、言葉をやり取りすることを通じて、まずは各々が立ち止まることから始めてみたい。
 
Overview of the course   
How can we design a just sustainable society for human (and more-than-human) survival on the earth?
　Now we live with the earth system in an unknown status that human activities have helped pushing in. How can we secure the potential and certainty for human/ more-than-human futures in the changing complex web of lives that have become more uncertain than ever? Can conceptualized natures, such as the wild or satoyama, be a practical design for this purpose? Furthermore, how can we think of multi-species ethics among new life-forms and artificial materials that science technology created and already our environment consists of? And then, what beings are we becoming with those others?
This lecture will also explore historical and global contexts on justice and fairness both for humans and non-humans to address environmental ethics in the post-Anthropocene.
