Sociology of Education: Learning from Minorities
 
授業の目標   
日本社会のマイノリティである在日朝鮮人とその民族学校である朝鮮学校の実践を取り上げて、マイノリティの民族教育の場を教育社会学の視点から理解することを目指す。
 
Goals of the course   
This course focuses on the practices of ZAINICHI Koreans, a minority group in Japanese society, and their ethnic Korean schools, and aims to understand the ethnic education of minorities from the perspective of educational sociology.
 
授業の概要   
日本社会のマイノリティである在日朝鮮人が、自国の文化や言葉を学び、民族的ルーツを肯定的に受けとめて育つことができる環境は、公教育制度としては保障されていない。そのようななかで、在日朝鮮人が運営してきた朝鮮学校における民族教育が果たしてきた役割は歴史的にも現在的にも重要である。
この講義では在日朝鮮人と朝鮮学校についての歴史と現在を深く学び、ドキュメンタリー作品にも触れながら、日本社会において在日朝鮮人の民族教育がどのように実践されてきたのかを学び、民族的マイノリティにとっての教育を考える。
 
Overview of the course   
The public education system does not guarantee an environment in which Korean residents in Japan, a minority in Japanese society, can learn their country's culture and language or grow up with a positive attitude toward their ethnic roots. In this context, the role that ethnic education has played in Korean schools run by Korean residents in Japan is important both historically and currently.
In this lecture, we will study in depth the history and present of Korean residents in Japan and Korean schools, and while also touching on documentaries, we will learn how ethnic education has been practiced in Japanese society and consider education for ethnic minorities.

この授業では受講者全員が調査発表（最終日）を実施します。受講期間中は発表のテーマを選定し授業の内容を踏まえながら準備することが求められます。

All students in this class will be required to give a presentation on their research (on the final day). During the class, students will be required to select a topic for their presentation and prepare it based on the content of the class.
