本講義では、移民、モビリティ、トランスナショナリズムの文化に関する幅広い知識と、食やモビリティといった、移民やモビリティの多様なパターンを理解するための方法を学ぶことを目的としている。講義終了時には、学生は次のことを習得する。
• 移民の主要概念を学び、さまざまな移民の類型の比較分析ができる
• 移民理論の批評をおこない、移民の類型を説明するために理論を組み合わせて使用できる
• 食や宗教の影響を含む、移民とモビリティの多様なパターンを探求する
• 移民とモビリティが現代の社会関係や文化生活に与える影響を分析する
• 移民、モビリティ、トランスナショナリズムについて得た知識を伝えることができる

This course is designed to give students broad knowledge about the cultures of migration, mobilities and transnationalism as well as other ways through which to understand diverse patterns of migrations and mobilities such food and migration. By the end of the course, students should:
• Learn key concepts of migration and be able to provide comparative analysis of the various migration typologies.
• Provide a critique of migration theories and have knowledge of using a combination of theories to explain migration typologies.
• Explore diverse patterns of migration and mobilities, including the influence of food and religion.
• Analyse the impact of migration and mobilities on contemporary social relationships and cultural life
• Be able to communicate knowledge gained about migration, mobilities and transnationalism.

本講義では、移民、モビリティ、トランスナショナル研究で使用される主要な概念を扱い、移民の類型を構築・分析し、理論と実証的研究戦略について批判的に考察する。
モビリティ、移民、トランスナショナリズムの幅広い定義を用い、理論的アプローチや科学的調査方法として、さまざまな概念を批判的に検討する。そうすることで、移民をきわめて複雑かつ多面的な現実として浮き彫りにし、さまざまな視点や言説から分析する必要性を示す。
これらの幅広いカテゴリーのもとで、モビリティと移民の概念、すなわち、トレンドとパターン、移民コミュニティ（ホームタウン・アソシエーション）と新たなアイデンティティ、幼少期のモビリティと移民、食と食事の文化、トランスナショナリズム／トランスナショナルな家族／トランスナショナルな生計、ホームタウン・アソシエーションについて解き明かしていく。
以上を通して、国境を越えた移民の複雑さと、それが現代の社会関係や文化生活に与える影響を理解し、移民が現代の関係性の形態（ジェンダー、親族関係、その他の親密さの形態）をどのように変化させているかを探求する。

Human mobilities and migration have been a constant phenomenon, appearance, and process throughout history. With advances in information and Communication Technologies, migration trends have morphed into mobilities such that those who stay can be mobile while staying put. Consequently, mobilities are not limited only to the movement of persons, but considers the circulation of objects, food, practices/ideas and cultures.
The course entails working with the main concepts used in migration, mobilities and transnational studies to build and analyse typologies of migratory flows and think critically about theories and empirical research strategies. We will use broad definitions of mobilities, migration and transnationalism and critically engage with and interrogate the various concepts as theoretical approaches and scientific research methods. This foregrounds migration as highly complex and multidimensional reality, and hence, requires to be analysed from different vantage points and discourses. Under these broad categories, we will unpack concepts of mobilities and migration: trends and patterns, migrant communities (Hometown Associations) and new identities, childhood mobilities and migration, cultures of food and eating, transnationalism/transnational families/transnational livelihoods, and Hometown Associations. Students will get to appreciate the complexities of transnational migration and its impact on contemporary social relationships and cultural life. And to explore how migration is changing contemporary forms of relatedness (gender, kinship, and other forms of intimacy).
There has been a recent interest in food, especially within migration studies. Here, we are interested in food as a universal medium for the expression of a variety of cultural issues among migrant communities – rituals, gender relations, marriage, kinship and identity. What is the role of food as a medium of exchange and consumption, sociality, and identity?
