The practical aspects of the international organizations
|

本コースは、将来国際機関に応募したいと考える学生向け。本コースでは講師と受講生の間のディスカッションなどを通して、以下を扱う。
i) 国連や他の国際機関に関する実務的な理解（理論的な視点よりも実務を重視）。
ii) 各自が選ぶ具体的な課題分野や国際機関について考えを深める機会。
iii) 空席公募への疑似的な応募体験（キャリア・プランニングに役立つ）。
事務局職員や政府代表として講師が得た知見に基づき、国際機関がどのように活動・機能するかに焦点をあてて講義を進める。取り扱う課題分野は、主に、貿易、開発、食料・農業、環境など。
コース終了時に、受講生は以下の知見等を得ることを目標とする。
i) 国際機関とそのメンバー国の役割や相互関係、意思決定メカニズム、の理解を深める。
ii) 国際機関の職員になって国際社会に貢献するために、今後どのようにキャリアをつんでいくかについて、自分としての考えが明らかになる。

The course is designed for potential applicants to international organizations, and aims to provide interactive dialogues with students for them to:
i) have practical and operational understandings (rather than theoretical aspects) for the UN and non-UN international organizations,
ii) seek specific consideration on the selected issues or organizations, and,
iii) experience virtual vacancy application in order to facilitate career planning.
Main focus is on how international organizations function based on the actual experiences/observations of the lecturer as staff member and as national delegate (trade, development, food and agriculture, environment and others).
Upon completion of this course, students will have:
i) better understandings of the roles and interactions of international organizations and member countries, decision making process, and,
ii) a clearer view on how to develop his/her career to seek contributions as a staff member in international organizations.

1) イントロとして、コースの説明やコミュニケーションの小技を紹介。その後、国連や他の国際機関の概説、持続可能な開発目標（SDGs）に触れる。
2) 国際機関の実務的な側面を論じるため、さまざまなグローバル課題を取り上げる。貿易、開発、食料・農業、環境、その他受講生からのリクエストを考慮した事項など。関連したグループワーク、議論、（学生による）プレゼンも行う。
3) 国際機関内あるいはメンバー国との間での日常的な業務運営を紹介し、議論する。また、国際機関スタッフの採用プロセスやそれに対する応募も取り上げる。講義の中では、空席情報の入手方法・読み方、実際の様式を用いた応募書類の作成・提出を経験し、将来の応募やキャリアプランニングの一助とする。また、随時、小テストや短いペーパー作成も行う。
4) 講義の終盤には、コースを通じて得た知見、議論、その他の情報に基づいて、受講生がプレゼンを行い、レポートを提出する。

1) Course guidance and communication tips will be provided as introduction. Then, the overview will be touched on of the UN system and other international organizations as well as Sustainable Development Goals.
2) Various global issues will be discussed from practical aspects of international organizations, including trade, development, food and agriculture, environment among others (as may be requested by students), followed by group work, discussions and presentations.
3) The daily operation within organizations and with member countries will be discussed, as well as recruitment and application. The application exercise includes how to access and read the vacancy information, prepare and submit the application with the provided forms. This will help future application to post vacancies of international organizations and the relevant career planning. At times during the course, quizzes and/or short essay assignments will be given.
4) To conclude and finalize the course study, students are requested to make presentations and submit reports based on the obtained knowledge, group discussion results, and other resources and materials.

受講に先立ち、以下を行う。

Prior to the class, students are requested to:
i) fill and submit brief inquiry sheets about his/her interests and experiences,
ii) select one or two global issues (or one or two specific international organizations) for his/her focus, and,
iii) select and read at least one publication (article/book) on the issue(s) or organization(s) selected above.

下に示す教科書・参考書は、授業内では直接使わないため、購入の必要はありません。
講義には、受講生各自がPCを使用します。必要な場合には大学からの貸し出しが可能ですが、毎回の講義終了時に返却が必要です。（台数制限あり）
