Sociology of migration : Case studies from France / Europe and Japan
 
授業の目標   
国際移民／移動（international migration/ transnational migration）について国民国家の視点を相対化し批判的に理解することを目指す。
 
Goals of the course   
This course is designed for students to get a deeper understanding of the phenomenon of international / transnational migration as well as a critical gaze while (re)thinking about migration.
 
授業の概要   
フランス／欧州と日本の事例を起点に、移民現象そのものだけではなく、移民現象を方向づけ生み出すローカル・ナショナル・リージョナル・トランスナショナルな政治・経済構造や国境政策・理念を考察する。
参加者は、教員と共に、博士前期課程向けの科目「多文化社会コーディネーション研究2」に部分的に参加し、特に日本の移民／外国人に関わる行政・社会運動・メディアの最前線で活動するアクターの話に触れながら、移民現象についての理論と実践の両面における理解を目指す。
博士前期課程の授業への参加に伴い、授業内容については変更予定があり、最終的な内容の確定は秋学期中に行う。
 
Overview of the course   
Using case studies from France/Europe and Japan, we will examine not only the phenomenon of migration itself but also the local, national, regional, and transnational political and economic structures, as well as border policies and ideologies, that shape and produce migration phenomena. Due to participation in the master's program courses, changes to the course content are planned, and the final details will be confirmed during the fall semester.

Participants will, together with the instructor, partially engage with the Master's course Multicultural Society Coordination Studies 2. Through exposure to discussions by actors active on the frontlines of administration, social movements, and media concerning migration in Japan, participants will aim to deepen their understanding of migration from both theoretical and practical perspectives.

全5回（各3回の授業後）のコメント課題（50%）、ディスカッション参加（10%）および最終レポート（40%）
 
Grading system for assessment   
Commentaries（40%）, discussion (10%）and final paper（60%）
 
事前・事後学習【要する時間の目安】   
各日3回の授業のテーマに合わせて、関連する短い論文や書籍の抜粋を配布する。受講者はそれを事後学習資料として読み、もしくは授業を復習しながら、コメント課題を執筆する。授業時間外の事前・事後学習時間は2〜3時間を想定している。
 
Preview/review   
Short papers or excerpts from relevant books will be distributed each day. Participants are expected to use these materials as post-class study resources, reviewing the lessons and further deepening their understanding. In some cases, the reading of these materials may be incorporated into the assignment for writing commentaries. Out-of-class pre- and post-class study time is estimated to be 2 to 3 hours.
 
履修上の注意   
グループ・ディスカッションを行う可能性があるが、苦手な場合には教員と相談の上、欠席して構わない。また、それによって成績上の不利益が生じないよう考慮する。その他にも、何らかの合理的配慮の希望がある場合には、授業期間開始前に連絡があれば、公式・非公式どちらでも受け付ける。

他方で、集中講義の特性上（1日で3回分の授業を実施する）、公欠に該当する理由なく1日目を欠席した場合には、本授業を継続して受けることはできない。公欠に当たる場合でも、2日（授業6回分）以上授業を欠席した場合には自動的に不可とする。また「卒業単位が不足している」等の理由に伴う授業の中途参加や例外的単位付与等を求めることは、それ自体を成績に関わる不正を求める行為とみなし、厳正に対処する。
 
Notes   
Group discussions may be conducted; however, if you find them challenging, you are welcome to consult with the instructor and opt out. Opting out will not result in any disadvantage to your grades. Additionally, if you require any other reasonable accommodation, you may contact the instructor before the course begins, either formally or informally.

On the other hand, due to the nature of an intensive course (with three sessions conducted per day), students who miss the first day without an officially recognized excuse will not be allowed to continue the course. Furthermore, requests for mid-course enrollment or exceptional credit allocation due to reasons such as a shortage of credits required for graduation will be regarded as an attempt to improperly influence grading and will be handled with strict measures.
