Philippine Culture: Learning Through Dance　
 
授業の目標   
フィリピン民族舞踊を事例として、東南アジアにおける舞踊の役割と意義、特に政治的側面について考える。また、植民地独立後のフィリピンの文化史の大まかな流れ、フィリピン文化を構成する多様な民族・地方文化、そしてフィリピンの舞踊を論じる上での重要な概念や問題への理解を深める。
 
Goals of the course   
Using Philippine folk dance as a case study, this class aims to learn about the roles and significance of dance in the Southeast Asian region, especially its political aspects. Students will also learn and deepen their understanding of the general trajectory of the cultural history of the post-colonial Philippines, the various ethnic and local cultures that make up Philippine culture, and key concepts and issues in the discussion of Philippine dance.
 
授業の概要   
植民地独立後のフィリピンにおいて、フィリピン文化、またそれを構成する民族・地方文化がどのように(再）構築され、変容しているかを、ナショナリズム、ポストコロニアリズム、アイデンティティ、政治、宗教や観光などの観点から考えるとともに、フィリピン文化（舞踊）を論じる上で重要な概念や理論を取り上げ、問題点などを提起する。さらに、フィリピン民族舞踊を構成する地方の固有文化や伝統を概観するとともに、舞踊の実践を通して、フィリピン多文化／他文化を身体的観点からも見つめる。
 
Overview of the course   
We will examine how national, local and ethnic cultures have been (re)constructed and transformed in the post-colonial Philippines from the perspectives of nationalism, post-colonialism, identity, politics, religion and tourism, etc. We will also bring up concepts and theories that are important in looking at the Philippine culture (Philippine folk dance) and discuss problems. While gaining a general idea of the unique cultures and traditions that make up Philippine folk dance, students will also understand and experience the multi/other cultures of the Philippines from within by actually learning how to dance and move the body.

成績評価の方法・基準   
受講時の平常点(10%)、リフレクションペーパー(60％)、舞踊の実践／発表（30％）により評価する。

事前・事後学習【要する時間の目安】   
毎回の授業には、指定した参考文献（随時、指示する）をあらかじめ読んだ上で出席すること。

All assigned reference materials (to be indicated as needed) must be read prior to each class.
 
履修上の注意   
授業は、講義と実践の二つの部分から構成されています。受講者にダンス経験は不要。練習着の持参、もしくは踊りやすい服装で受講してください。　
 
Notes   
This class consists of both lecture and actual dance practice. No previous dance experience is required. Please bring a change of clothes or wear comfortable clothes to practice dancing.
