Title（English）   
Understanding Philippine Culture through Dance　
 
授業の目標   
フィリピンの民族舞踊・国民舞踊を事例として、舞踊が社会や政治とどのように関わってきたのかを批判的に考察することを目的とする。特に、国民国家の形成、ナショナリズム、植民地主義と脱植民化、文化政策といった観点から、舞踊の役割と意義を理解する。あわせて、舞踊実践を通して身体的・文化的経験を直接体験し、フィリピン文化を構成する多様な民族・地域文化への理解を深める。
 
Goals of the course   
This class aims to critically examine how dance has been intertwined with society and politics by focusing on Philippine folk dances and national dances as case studies. In particular, it explores the roles and significance of dance in relation to the formation of the nation-state, nationalism, colonialism and decolonization, and cultural policy. In addition, through dance practice, students will directly engage in embodied and cultural experiences, thereby deepening their understanding of the diverse regional and indigenous cultures that constitute Philippine culture.
 
授業の概要   
植民地独立後のフィリピンにおいて、民族舞踊や国民舞踊がどのように創造・制度化され、国家や社会の中で再構築されてきたのかを考察する。ナショナリズム、国民国家、ポストコロニアリズム、アイデンティティ、文化政策、宗教、観光といった視点から、舞踊をめぐる政治的・社会的文脈を検討する。
さらに、講義と並行して舞踊の実践を行い、地域・民族文化や伝統が身体を通してどのように経験され、再解釈されるのかを体験的に学ぶ。理論と実践を往復しながら、舞踊を「表現」や「伝統」としてだけでなく、「実践としての知」「社会を読み解く手がかり」として捉えることを目指す。
 
Overview of the course   
The course explores how Philippine folk dances have been created, institutionalized, and reconstructed within the nation and society in the postcolonial period. It examines the political and social contexts of dance through lenses including nationalism, the nation-state, postcolonialism, identity, cultural policy, religion, and tourism, etc.
Alongside lectures, students will engage in dance practice to experience firsthand how local cultures and traditions are embodied and reinterpreted through movement. By moving back and forth between theory and practice, the course encourages students to understand dance not only as artistic expression or tradition but also as a form of embodied knowledge and as a critical lens for analyzing society.

成績評価の方法・基準   
受講時の平常点(10%)、リフレクションペーパー(60％)、舞踊の実践／発表（30％）により評価する。

事前・事後学習【要する時間の目安】   
毎回の授業には、指定した参考文献・映像（随時、指示する）をあらかじめ読んだ・視聴した上で出席すること。

All assigned readings and/or audiovisual materials (as indicated) should be completed prior to each class.
 
履修上の注意   
本授業は講義と舞踊実践の二つの部分で構成されている。受講にあたってダンス経験は必要なし。実技に参加する際は、練習着または動きやすい服装の着用を推奨する。
 
Notes   
This class consists of both lectures and dance practice. No previous dance experience is required. Students are encouraged to wear appropriate practice attire or comfortable clothing for the practical sessions.
