Title（English）   
The History of English Literature
 
授業の目標   
文学作品を通じて、イギリスの文化や思想に親しみ、英語を教える際に基礎となる教養を育む。とくに、各時代の歴史・文化を背景とした英語の歴史的変遷について、必要最小限の知識を身につけることを目標とする。
 
Goals of the course   
The goal of this course is to acquire such basic knowledge about the history of English literature as would be useful to the student when he/she becomes a teacher of English.
 
授業の概要   
まず古代から現代に至る英文学の歴史について、一定の総合的知識を身につける。それとともに、特定の時代に焦点をあてて具体的な作家や文学作品に親しみ、文学を通じてイギリスの文化、思想を自ら探求する姿勢と能力をつちかう。受講者に読むべき作品を指示し、翻訳、批評、感想などを必要に応じて求める。
今期は劇作家・小説家オスカー・ワイルドを中心にして1890年代の英文学に焦点をあてる。
 
Overview of the course   
This course is divided into two sections. In the first section we survey the whole vista of the history of English literature very briefly. After that we choose a particular period and focus upon some representative authors of that age.
In this term we focus on the works of Oscar Wilde and the 1890s.

課題提出（40％）ALH（10%）および期末レポート（50％）によって総合的に評価する。

事前・事後学習【要する時間の目安】   
配布する資料を十分に読み込んで授業に出席すること。
復習として、授業で学んだ作品の音読練習を継続して行うこと。
 
Preview/review   
The student is required to peruse the selected books and other materials beforehand. He/She has to reread them afterwards in order to deepen his/her understanding of them.
 
履修上の注意   
紹介した参考文献は、学期中に読んでおくことが望ましい。
授業は主にオンデマンド方式をとるが、一部同期型の授業も行う予定なので、注意すること。
特に第一回の授業は定められた授業時間に行うので、その用意をしていただきたい。
