Title（English）   
Introduction to English Linguistics
 
授業の目標   
１．現代英語の特徴と背景について理解する。
２．英語を学び教えるうえで役立つ英語学的基礎知識を身につける。
３．英語史的考え方の基礎を身につける。
 
Goals of the course   
1. To understand the features and background of Present-day English.
2. To acquire a basic knowledge of English linguistics which will be helpful in both learning and teaching English.
3. To gain basic ideas about the history of the English language.
 
授業の概要   
導入に続き、英語が国際語へと発展する道のりを概観したのちに、英語の語彙・文法・発音・綴り字の特徴について共時的かつ通時的視点から考察し、現代における英語の変化についても触れる。教科書の内容をより深く理解するため、具体例を用いたエクササイズや様々な映像資料なども利用する。

◆英語専攻以外で、英語の教職課程を履修する学生を対象に開講される授業です。
 
Overview of the course   
Beginning with a brief survey of the history of the English language, we will then consider the features of English vocabulary, grammar, sounds, and spelling from a synchronic and diachoronic point of view.

◆This course is for non-English majors who are enrolled in the English teacher training program.

成績評価の方法・基準   
平常点（４０％）と学期末試験（ALHを含む）（６０％）の結果により評価する。
 
Grading system for assessment   
Active class participation: 40%
Final examination (including ALHs): 60%
 
事前・事後学習【要する時間の目安】   
教科書の予習の範囲をきちんと読み問題意識をもって授業に臨み、授業後に要点を復習してください。
 
Preview/review   
Students are expected to read the assigned part of the textbook in advance and participate actively in class, and review the important points of the lecture.

教職課程認定上の教科に関する科目（中学校及び高等学校　英語）の英語学に該当します。

Students are encouraged to ask any questions before, during and after each class, and via email (to be announced in the first class).

This course can be counted as "English Linguistics" as part of the teacher training program.
