Title（English）

Exploring Burmese Linguistics: An Introductory Course

授業の目標

本授業では、ビルマ語およびその周辺言語における音韻現象・文法現象を、日本語を含む世界の諸言語と対照しながら考察し、言語記述に必要とされる幅広い視野を身につけることを目標とする。

Goals of the course

This course aims to examine examines phonological and grammatical phenomena in Burmese and its neighboring languages in comparison with world languages, including Japanese, with the aim of developing a broad perspective necessary for linguistic description.

授業の概要

ミャンマー諸言語の研究および記述言語学において頻繁に取り上げられるテーマについて、受講生による発表と議論を通して理解を深める。
（※本授業は同時双方向型のオンライン授業として実施するが、基本的には対面授業と同様に対話を重視した形式で行う。そのため、受講者は授業中、ウェブカメラを常時オンにすること。また、教員の指示に従い、マイクをオンにして発言するなど、議論に積極的に参加すること。）

Overview of the course

This course deepens students’ understanding of topics frequently addressed in the study of the languages of Myanmar and in descriptive linguistics through student presentations and discussion.
(Note: This course will be conducted synchronously online; however, it will follow an interactive format similar to that of face-to-face classes. Students are required to keep their webcams on at all times during class. In addition, students are expected to follow the instructor’s directions, turn on their microphones when instructed, and actively participate in discussions.)

カメラ・マイクをオンにした状態での議論への参加（20％）、発表（20％）、レポート（20％）、小テスト（40％）

Grading system for assessment

Participation in discussions with camera and microphone on (20%), presentations with camera and microphone on (20%), written reports (20%), quizzes (40%)

事前・事後学習【要する時間の目安】

授業後は必ず復習を行い、課題が出された場合は課外で忘れずに取り組むこと。

Preview/review

Students are expected to review the material after each class and complete any assigned work outside of class.

履修上の注意

(1) 本授業はオンラインで実施するが、基本的には対面授業と同様に対話を重視した形式で行う。そのため、授業中は必ずウェブカメラをオンにすること。また、必要に応じてマイクをオンにして発言するなど、議論に積極的に参加すること。ビデオで顔を映し、オーディオで発言できるよう、授業期間中は適切な学習環境を整え、受講前にPCおよび周辺機器の動作確認を必ず行うこと。
なお、事前の申し出や正当な理由なくビデオやオーディオをオフにしたまま、教員からの問いかけに応答がない場合は、欠席扱いとすることがあるので十分注意すること。
(2) グループディスカッション等も実施するため、マイクをオンにして発言できる環境を整え、議論に適した静かな屋内（自宅・大学等）から受講すること。野外や屋外からの受講は認めない。
(3) 言語学および音声学を履修済み、または同時に履修していることが望ましい。
(4) 他言語専攻の学生の受講も歓迎する。

Notes

(1) This course will be conducted online; however, it will follow an interactive format similar to that of face-to-face classes. Students are required to keep their webcams on at all times during class and to participate actively in discussions, including turning on their microphones when necessary to speak. To ensure that your face is visible on video and that you can speak via audio, please maintain an appropriate learning environment throughout the semester and check in advance that your computer and related equipment are functioning properly.
Please note that if you keep your video or audio off without prior notice or a valid reason and fail to respond to the instructor’s questions, you may be marked absent.
(2) As group discussions and other interactive activities will be conducted, students must participate from a quiet indoor location suitable for discussion (e.g., home or university) and ensure that they can speak with their microphone on. Participation from outdoor locations is not permitted.
(3) It is desirable that students have completed, or are concurrently enrolled in, courses in linguistics and phonetics.
(4) Students majoring in other languages are also welcome to enroll.
