授業の目標   
ヨーロッパ・アメリカのさまざまな地域・文化圏に関する授業を受けることにより、受講者は、専修科目の授業に先駆けて当該地域の文化に関する研究の一端に触れ、そのエッセンスにあたるものを全般にわたって把握することが可能となります。自分が専門とする地域のみならず、それ以外の様々な地域文化について学ぶことを通じて「文化」に対する視野を広げ、3年次以降の専門的研究のための基礎を築くことが到達目標です。
 
Goals of the course   
Through lectures on cultures found in different areas of Europe and the Americas, students will gain familiarity with research conducted in those fields and better understand the essence of such research. The goal here is to build a foundation for conducting advanced studies in related fields during the students’ 3rd and the 4th years, by means of studying cultures in areas additional to those they major in.
 
授業の概要   
ヨーロッパとアメリカの各地域文化に関して、各回1名の担当者が、リレー形式で講義を行います。地域文化研究の方法と理論を踏まえ、各地域、各時代の特質に則した具体的事例を取りあげつつ、多様な研究の可能性を明らかにします。予定されている各回のテーマならびに担当者は「授業の計画」を参照してください（題目とその順序、担当者について変更が生じる場合があります）。
 
Overview of the course   
Multiple instructors will deliver a series of lectures on cultures in different areas of Europe and the Americas, showing various possibilities for research in the field of area culture studies. In each class session, an instructor will, on the basis of theories and methodologies of area culture studies, deliver a lecture on a topic related to cultural characteristics of a specific area and historical period. Topics and instructors for each class session are indicated below in the "Plan" section (topics and instructors are subject to change).

成績評価の方法・基準   
受講者は、各回の終わりにレスポンス・シートを提出します。授業の理解度や提示された問題に対する思考力・洞察力に応じた得点を集計し、最終的な評価とします。
アクティブ・ラーニング：10％（ALH1:5%、ALH2:5%）
レスポンス・シート：90％
 
Grading system for assessment   
Students will submit response sheets at the end of each class session and will be evaluated on the basis of level of understanding and critical-thinking ability.
Active Learning : 10% (ALH1:5%, ALH2:5%)

事前・事後学習【要する時間の目安】   
各回で紹介された文献等にあたり、予備知識をもって次回の授業に備えるなど、日頃の蓄積をとおして、理解力を高めるよう努めること。

Reading reference materials and raising level of understanding.
 
履修上の注意   
内容的には、導入科目「総合文化研究入門」あるいは「文化研究入門」よりも高度となるが、本講義の履修に当たって、これらの導入科目をあらかじめ履修している必要はない。今後は、従前の自己の関心領域にとどまらない広汎な知識を身につけ、柔軟な感性を育むよう努めること。
 
Notes   
The level of this course is higher than that of such introductory courses as "Introduction to Cultural and Literary Studies" and "Introduction to Culture Studies", but taking such introductory courses in advance is not a requirement. Students are encouraged to acquire extensive knowledge beyond areas of their interests and to cultivate flexible sensibility toward area cultures.
