Goals of the course   
In a society that is becoming more interconnected on a global scale, it is crucial to have efficient intercultural communication in order to promote mutual comprehension, cooperation, and the resolution of issues within various cultural environments. The advent of digital media and platforms has bestowed upon us potent instruments that surpass geographical limitations, facilitating instantaneous contact and cooperation among individuals and communities around the globe. Nevertheless, proficiency in utilizing these platforms for intercultural communication necessitates not just technological expertise, but also a profound comprehension of cultural disparities and communication intricacies.

This course aims to improve students' intercultural competency and provide them with the skills to strategically utilize digital platforms in order to promote conversation, cooperation, and creativity between different cultures. This is in line with the wider educational objectives of equipping students to become globally-conscious and socially accountable persons who can make meaningful contributions to society by engaging in well-informed and impactful communication.

Overview of the course   
The course on Digital Platforms for Intercultural Communication aims to provide students with both theoretical understanding and practical abilities to effectively engage in cross-cultural conversations utilizing digital platforms. The course explores the intercultural dynamics, offering a comprehensive view of how digital tools might be employed to bridge cultural divides and tackle global issues.
In addition to traditional digital platforms such as Discord, Line, and Facebook, this course integrates the exploration of new media like the Metaverse. As an emerging virtual space, the metaverse offers unprecedented opportunities for immersive communication and cultural exchange. By engaging with the metaverse and other cutting-edge technologies, students will explore how these platforms can be leveraged to create more engaging and impactful intercultural experiences, pushing the boundaries of how we connect and collaborate across cultures.
This course combines fundamental principles from information technology and innovation dissemination to offer a complete foundation for comprehending the intricacies of digital communication in international environments. Furthermore, by integrating Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) sessions and prioritizing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the course highlights the significance of worldwide cooperation in tackling urgent challenges that impact communities globally.

成績評価の方法・基準   
 
Grading system for assessment   
1) Reflection: (30 points; 5 points x 6 times): Discussion forums will be setup on the learning management system. There will be five discussion forums.
2) Interactive Books (30 points; 5 points x 6 times): Interactive books have the lesson content but with short interactive quizzes as knowledge checks.
3) Final Project (30 points): Students will be asked to form a group, preferably with students from the partner universities and create a project that could help with achieving any of the SDGs using any of the platforms discussed.
3) Final Presentation (10 points): Students will be presenting their project to their class with some of their peers from other universities.

Notes   
- This is a TP-Bridge Course that involves Collaborative Online International Learning activities. Willingness to interact and communicate in English with students from a different culture or country is expected from those who would be taking it.
- On the first day only (Oct. 7), the class will be held face-to-face in classroom 107 at TUFS. Please make sure to attend this in-person class. The rest of the days are online as scheduled.
