福島は15年前（2026年2月現在）に地震、津波、原発事故という複合的な災害に見舞われ、甚大な被害を受けました。地元の人々は積極的に日常生活を送っていますが、事故に関連する問題は依然として解決すべき課題として残っています。このフィールドワークでは、学生は福島を訪れ、農作業などを通じて地域住民と直接協力し、インタビューを行うことで学びを深めます。その経験やインタビューに基づき、学生は雑誌記事を作成します。作成された記事は、福島の課題に関心を持つ米国の学生と共有されます。

Fukushima suffered tremendous damage from multiple disasters, including the earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear accident 15 years ago (as of February 2026). While the locals are actively going about their daily lives, issues related to the incident still need to be resolved. In this fieldwork class, the students will travel to Fukushima and learn from residents directly by working with them on farms and conducting interviews. As a result, students create magazine articles based on their experiences and interviews. The articles will be shared with students in the US who are interested in Fukushima issues.

この授業は、1) オンラインオンデマンドによる事前学習、2) 対面での教室ディスカッション、3) 福島での職場体験やインタビューを含むフィールドトリップ、4) 雑誌記事作成、5) 米国の学生との記事共有で構成されます。
事前学習では、学生は福島の災害の歴史と現状、NPOによる災害復興活動、訪問する場所、インタビューを行う人々について学びます。対面授業では、学生は専門家から記事作成について学び、関心分野ごとにグループを作り、雑誌記事の企画を練ります。フィールドトリップでは、主に福島県いわき市、双葉郡（双葉町・大熊町）を3日間2泊で訪れ、住民による災害に関する講義を聞き、災害状況について学び、農業支援作業を体験し、グループで住民にインタビューを行います。最終日には、各グループが英語で雑誌記事を作成します。作成された雑誌記事は、福島の課題を研究し、関心を持つ米国の学生とオンラインプラットフォームを通じて共有されます。

This class consists of 1) online-on-demand preparatory study, 2) face-to-face classroom discussions, 3) a Fukushima field trip, including work experience and interviews in Fukushima, 4) magazine article creation and 5) sharing articles with students in the US.
In the preparatory study, students will learn about the history and current status of the Fukushima disaster, disaster relief by non-profit organizations, places to visit, and people to interview. In the face-to-face class, students form groups according to their interests and develop plans for magazine articles. During the field trip, students will mainly visit Iwaki City, Futaba District (Futaba Town & Ōkuma Town) in Fukushima Prefecture, for three days and two nights to listen to lectures by residents on the disaster, learn about the disaster situation, experience agricultural support work, and interview residents in groups. On the final day, each group will create a magazine article in English. The magazine articles will be shared with students in the US who are studying/interested in the Fukushima issues through an online platform.

背景：この授業は、文部科学省の資金援助を受けて米国の大学と提携した大学間交流プログラムの一環として、日本財団ボランティアセンターの協力を得て2019年度に開始されました。2023年度からは、大学間交流プログラム「TP-Bridge」の一環として継続されています。
登録：予算の都合上、募集定員は13名です。応募者数が13名を超える場合は、申請書類審査および/または面接が行われ、最終参加者を決定する予定です。授業登録期間終了後、登録確認または選考についてメールでご連絡いたしますので、毎日メールをご確認ください。選考が発生する場合にはメールでご連絡しますが、指定された期日までにお返事をいただかない場合は履修登録キャンセルとさせていただきます。
条件：この授業に参加する学生は、有効な学生保険（学研災および学研賠、または学研災に付随する学生生活総合保険）に加入している必要があります。
言語：福島のみなさまは日本語を使用します。留学生には、必要に応じて逐次通訳が提供されます。
費用：連携団体が、福島県内での交通費、宿泊費（ドミトリー形式の複数人数での宿泊場所を予定）、2日目と3日目の昼食代（弁当支給）を負担します。学生は、その他の費用ー集合場所である双葉駅までの交通費、解散場所であるいわき駅から自宅までの交通費、1日目の昼食代、毎日の朝・夕食代（実費）、請戸小学校入場料300円、伝承館入場料600円、必要であればお土産代などーを負担してください。
持参するもの：スニーカー、軍手、傘および/またはレインコート、日よけ帽/キャップ、長靴、暖かい服、農作業着、水筒/飲み物などが必要です。詳細は参加者に別途お知らせします。
食事制限：学生の登録確認後、2日目と3日目の昼食手配の際に、担当教員がすべての学生に食事制限の有無について確認します。

Background:
This class began in AY2019 with support from the Nippon Foundation Volunteer Center as part of the inter-university exchange program with the US universities funded by the MEXT. Since AY2023, this class has continued as part of the inter-university exchange program "TP-Bridge".
Registration:
- Once your registration is confirmed, all travel arrangements will be finalized. Therefore, cancellations are NOT permitted. Please consider carefully before registering for the course.
- Due to budget constraints, enrollment is limited to 13 students. If the number of applicants exceeds 13, an application screening and/or interviews may be conducted to finalize the list of participants. You will be notified by email regarding your registration status or any required screening shortly after the course registration period ends. If screening is required and you are notified by email, failure to respond by the specified deadline will result in the cancellation of your course registration. Please check your email daily.
Condition:
Students joining this class must have effective students insurance, both Gakkensai & Gakkenbai, or Comprehensive insurance for students' lives coupled with Gakkensai.
Language:
Fukushima residents use Japanese. For international students, consecutive interpretation will be provided if necessary.
Expenses:
The cooperating organization will cover transportation within Fukushima Prefecture, accommodation (shared dormitory-style lodging is planned), and lunch on Days 2 and 3 (bento provided).
Students are responsible for other costs including transportation to the meeting point (Futaba Station), transportation from the dismissal point (Iwaki Station) to their homes, lunch on Day 1, and the actual cost of daily breakfast and dinner, the admission fee for Ukedo Emelentary School (300 yen) and Densho-kan (600yen) and other fees if needed.
What to bring:
Sneakers, work gloves (gunte), umbrella and/or raincoat, cap/hat for sunshade, rain boots, warm clothes, clothes for agricultural work, water bottle/drinks, etc. are needed. Details will be announced to participants.
Dietary restrictions:
After students’ registration is confirmed, the instructor will ask all participants about any dietary restrictions, as lunch (bento) will be provided for the second and third days.
