Japanese Modern History From The Viewpoint of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies
 
授業の目標   
東京外国語大学は、幕末に徳川幕府によって設立された蕃書調所を淵源とし、明治6（1873）年に創立された東京外国語学校を起源とする大学である。その歴史は、幕末維新期に、欧米列強に伍した近代国家を建設するために、外国語翻訳・通訳、外国学に精通した人材を養成することを目的として設置した高等教育機関として出発したが、近代日本の歴史とともに政治に翻弄されながら歩んできた。この授業では、東京外国語大学の歴史と卒業生の姿を通して、日本の近現代史を学ぶことを目的とする。
 
Goals of the course   
Tokyo University of Foreign Studies(TUFS) has its origin in ‘Banshoshirabesho’, founded by the Tokugawa Shogunate. Though the name has changed several times from Tokyo School of Foreign Languages to Tokyo College of Foreign Affairs, and finally to Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. TUFS has continuously provided education and promoted the research of foreign languages and international affairs for over 150 years. Foreign language education and research at TUFS has inevitably been tied in with modern Japanese diplomatic policy and at times caught in the midst of debate over consolidation and reform.
The main topic of this course is the Japanese modern history from the viewpoint of TUFS.
 
授業の概要   
日本近現代史に対応する形で、東京外国語大学の歴史を講義するとともに、本学の歴史上特筆すべき出来事や人物に注目することから、具体的に日本の歴史を解きあかしてゆく。複数の教員によるリレー講義の形式をとる。
原則としてZoomを用いたオンラインの形式で実施するが、10月19日の授業のみ教室において対面授業の形式で実施する。
 
Overview of the course   
The subject of this course is the Japanese modern history from the viewpoint of TUFS. Students will study the overview of the TUFS history, and some event or person in TUFS history. Curriculum Lectures follow an omnibus style.

成績評価の方法・基準   
授業期間中のコメントシート(30%)、アクティブラーニングの課題レポート(20%)、学期末のレポート(50%)により総合的に判断する。

Comprehensive evaluation based upon; Comment sheets (30%), Active Learning (20%), Term-end paper (50%)
