The goals of this intensive English course are to employ all English language skills with a focus on oral expression and one ALH essay based on content related to photography. Students will also be expected to convey an understanding and insight of the content in their pair/group discussions and related activities. A number of readings will be provided for each lesson.

Overview of the course

This intensive English course will encourage students to use all areas of English language skills while exploring, discussing, and researching a number of aspects of photography. Photography is so central to not only capturing and preserving our personal history and the momentous events that shape our world, it is a creative extension of human expression.

In this intensive course, we will explore various questions on photography through a series of readings and discussions and incorporate elements of English writing skills. The course requires considerable reading, critical thinking, and a willingness to share one's personal views, opinions, ideas, and experiences.

The main objective of this course is to develop the students’ communication skills to engage in public conversations and debates. By working with the broad topic of architectural heritage preservation and tourism in Japan, the students will learn communication skills to show the value of Japanese heritage to foreign tourists, thus promoting strategies for sustainable tourism in Japan.
