[CANNELL David, Tuesday] Engage students in a topic of universal interest through class discussion of important texts and film.
[FIELD Malcolm, Friday] Our objective is to consider different contemporary global and local challenges, apply different perspectives, and consider how we can navigate those challenges. And perhaps we might find some good ideas.

[CANNELL David, Tuesday] What exactly is romantic love? Is it a kind of madness or sickness? Is it a form of blindness? Why does romantic love feel so real and yet ultimately illusory? Is love the union of two lovers giving birth to a shared identity? Is this shared identity real in the same way we experience our own individual identity? Such perplexing questions! In this course, we will appeal to philosophers, poets, literary critics, and film-makers to assist us in answering these baffling questions of love and life.
[FIELD Malcolm, Friday] We will read different texts and/or watch different audiovisual clips as introductory background to the contemporary global and/or local challenges. We will also briefly examine theoretical understanding that may help to explain the challenges, critique approaches, and consider how other understanding could help bring opportunities to manage the challenges. We will use all language and communication skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing, presenting, clarifying, summarizing, analyzing and critiquing). Each class will be a different topic. In the final class, students will bring their own solutions and ideas to a contemporary challenge.
