Introduction to African Studies 1
 
授業の目標   
この授業はアフリカ研究への入門編である。現代アフリカについて学ぶ上で、重要となる歴史、地理について基礎知識を身につける。現代アフリカで起こっているさまざまな事象を歴史的背景を踏まえて把握できるようになる。アフリカと自分との関わりについて、具体的にイメージできるようになる。
 
Goals of the course   
This course aims to acquire basic knowledge on history, geography of African continent as well as basic theories in social sciences and humanities that are necessary to understand comtemporary issues in African Studies,
 
授業の概要   
人類史におけるアフリカの位置、アフリカ独自の地域形成、サハラ砂漠や海を介したアフリカと他の大陸との交渉、アフリカ社会への植民地支配の影響、アフリカの日常生活（食生活、多言語使用、多文化社会における紛争解決の知恵）、などについてさまざまな地域の事例から学んでいく。参加者は、新聞やインターネットの観察を通じて日々のアフリカについて情報を集めて発表する。
 
Overview of the course   
Participants will learn about various topics inclusding (1) original regional formation of Africa, (2) intercontinental trade, (3) colonial period.

ALH1 メディアウォッチと回し読み新聞の作成。ならびにその報告プレゼンテーションを準備する。
ALH2 アフリカの歴史・地理・社会文化についてのクイズと解答・解説の作成。作成したクイズについて発表を準備する。
第1回 イントロダクション：　授業全体についてのガイダンスと課題についての説明。
第2回 アフリカ大陸の自然・地理・人間生活
第3回 アフリカの地域形成①：　中西部アフリカ
第4回 アフリカの地域形成②：　東南部アフリカ
第5回 サハラ交易と西アフリカ世界の形成
第6回 インド洋交易とスワヒリ世界の形成
第7回 大西洋交易と近代世界システムの成立
第8回 アフリカに関するニュースのメディアウォッチ成果報告発表会。批評とディスカッション。
第9回 植民地支配の研究①：　直接統治（英領アフリカを中心に）
第10回 植民地支配の研究②：　間接統治（仏領アフリカを中心に）
第11回 植民地支配の研究③：　日本の植民地政策（北海道と満州を中心に）
第12回 アフリカと第一次・第二次世界大戦
第13回 まとめ。アフリカの歴史・地理・社会文化についてのクイズの発表とディスカッション。

事前・事後学習【要する時間の目安】   
各自がアフリカに関する情報にアンテナを張り、スクラップブックを作成する。教科書『新書アフリカ史』『アフリカ』や配付資料をもとに授業内容の予習・復習をすること。
 
Preview/review   
Africa is vast and we could not cover all age and areas only in the half semester. In addition to course contents, particiants are required to explore by self beyond course contents.
 
履修上の注意   
後期の地域基礎の授業と連動しているので併せて受講すること。アフリカの歴史の共通性／多様性の理解とともに、アフリカ地域と他地域との比較・連関性に重点が置かれる。「アクティブ・ラーニング」以外の授業においても、グループワークや受講者間でのディベートなど、参加型の要素が含まれるので、これらに積極的に臨み、主体的に学習を進めることが求められる。
 
Notes   
This course is in combination with "Introduction to African Studies 2". Consequent participation is recommended. Active participation is welcomed.
